By default, Windows 11 does not notify you when the system needs to be restarted in order to apply a newly downloaded update. This results in a situation where you’ve finished your session and want to shut down, but Windows needs to restart the system to finish installing new updates.
If you find this bothersome, you can easily set up notifications to remind you to restart your Windows 11 PC after an update. Find out in the following paragraphs.

Get notified when an update requires a PC restart
To begin, press the Windows + I key combination on your Windows 11 PC to launch the Settings app.
Click ‘Windows Update’ from the list on the left of the Settings interface that appears.
Click ‘Advanced Options’ on the corresponding ‘Windows Update’ page that appears on the right.
Toggle the switch to the right of the ‘Notify Me When a Restart is Required to Finish Updating’ option in the ‘Advanced Options’ menu to enable it. This option, which is disabled by default, displays a message to restart the computer whenever the system needs to apply a new update.
That’s all there is to it! Close Settings, and the system will now send you an automatic notification whenever you have an update that requires you to restart your PC to complete.
