Snipping Tool, a redesigned screenshot feature in Windows 11, is quite useful. You might not need to use a third-party screenshot tool like Greenshot or ShareX anymore. Everything on the screen can be easily captured using the built-in Snipping Tool ( Default Screenshots Folder ).
Screenshots taken with the built-in screenshot tool are saved by default in the C:\Users\<user name>\Pictures\Screenshots directory. If you want, you can move the default location to a different folder for easier access or other reasons.
This article will show you how to change the default screenshots folder and then restore it.
Change the Location of the Default Screenshots Folder in Windows 11
- Navigate to the C:\Users\<user name>\Pictures directory in Windows Explorer. Please note that you must replace your user name with <user name>.
- Right-click the Default Screenshots Folder in the Pictures directory and choose Properties from the popup menu.
- Navigate to the Location tab on the Screenshots Properties dialog, then click the Move button.
- Select the destination folder you want to use as your Default Screenshot Folder in the File Explorer window and click Select Folder.
- Click the Apply button after you’ve chosen a new destination directory.
- The Move Folder dialog box will then appear, asking if you want to move all of your files from the old location to the new one. Click Yes
- Finally, press OK.
Those programs, including Snipping Tool, that used the Screenshots folder to save images by default will now use the newly selected destination directory after completing the above steps.
