On Windows 11, how do I disable the Power button? Every Windows PC has a power button that allows you to turn it on or off. If your computer hangs or becomes unresponsive, you can turn it off completely in seconds by pressing the power key on your keyboard. To do so, press and hold the power button until it turns off completely. Although it is not recommended to use the power key to shut down the computer on a regular basis.
But, how many times have you unintentionally turned off your computer by pressing the power button? Is there a simple way to disable or change the power button’s function in Windows 11? Yes, if Windows 11 exits, it is possible to control the power and sleep buttons. The power button can be configured using the Control Panel. Here’s how to do it.
How to Disable Power Button in Windows 11?
- Go to the Control Panel and open it. To do so, press the Windows key on the keyboard or click the Start button on the taskbar. Type Control Panel into the search box. Click on its entry from the list of results to open it.
- Make sure “View by” is set to Category, then select the Hardware and Sound category from the drop-down menu.
- In the “Power Options” section, select the Change what the power buttons do link.
- On the following screen, you’ll see what happens when you press the power or sleep buttons on your machine. Select “When I press the power button” from the drop-down menu under “Power and sleep button and lid settings.” You’ll find the following options here:
- Do Nothing: When you press the power button, nothing will happen.
- Sleep: Your PC goes into a low-power sleep mode but stays running when you select this option.
- Hibernate: Your PC will save the state of your system memory on disk and shuts down. When you start your computer again, your session is resumed.
- Shut down: This option turns off your PC.
- Under “On battery” and “Plugged in,” choose an option other than “Shut down.”
When you press the Power button on your computer, it now prevents your computer from shutting down by accident. Choose “Do Nothing” if you don’t want any interruptions from the power button. When you’re finished, click the Save Changes button to close the Control Panel safely.
