How to Enable or Disable Password Protected Sharing in Windows 11

Password Protected Sharing in Windows 11 feature, which is enabled by default. If you share a file or folder from your computer with others on the network, they won’t be able to access it until they have a valid username and password for your computer.

Windows 11’s password-protected sharing feature prevents unauthorized users from accessing shared files/folders, printers, and other resources. You can, however, disable this so that anyone on the same network can access shared folders and resources.

How to Turn Off or On Password Protected Sharing in Windows 11?

You must disable password-protected sharing to give all users on your network access to shared resources. Here’s how to go about it.

  1. Open the Control Panel. To do so, go to the taskbar’s Search or Start button and type Control Panel into the search box. Select the relevant entry from the available search results.
  2. When the Control Panel appears, select the Network and Internet tab.
  3. Select Network and Sharing Center from the right sidebar.
  4. Select Change advanced sharing settings from the left sidebar.
  5. Expand All networks by clicking the arrow.
  6. Scroll down to the “Password protected sharing” section at the bottom of the page. To disable or enable password sharing, select “Turn off password protected sharing” or “Turn off password protected sharing.”
  7. Last but not least, click the Save Changes button.
