How to fix This Webpage is not available error

October 18, 2021

Websites are hosted on servers, which are essentially always-on computers capable of serving hundreds of thousands of requests at a time. A server, like any other computer, can fail, and any website hosted on it will be lost. You won’t be able to access it as a result. A server going down, on the other hand, is extremely rare. You may be unable to access a website due to issues with your internet connection, browser, or even operating system.

If you are unable to access a website, you may receive an error message such as This Webpage is not available or something similar. The error message you see may vary depending on the browser you’re using and what your browser thinks is wrong. Regardless, try the following solutions to get it fixed.

1. Check if website is down

When you see the This Webpage is Not Available message, the first thing you should do is see if the website is down or if there is a problem with your connection. Follow these steps to determine the status of a website.

  1. Copy the URL of the website you’re trying to access.
  2. Visit Down for everyone or just me.
  3. Enter the URL and check the status.

There is nothing you can do if the website is unavailable. It is up to the website to fix any issues it may be experiencing.

2. Try a different browser

Any modern website should not have any problems, but if your browser has a problem, it may be interfering with the connection. Install a different browser and try to access the website through it. If you can access the website using a different browser, try the rest of the fixes we’ve listed to figure out what’s wrong with your browser. You can also try reinstalling your browser from scratch.

It’s possible that your antivirus software is preventing you from accessing the website. A website may be blocked by an overzealous antivirus. Check to see if the antivirus app allows you to whitelist websites. If possible, add the website to your whitelist and see if you can access it.

You can also use Windows Defender instead.

Normally, it does not prevent access to websites. It will block those that it detects with a malware warning.

4. Run Windows troubleshooter

If your internet settings are incorrect, you will have trouble connecting to a website or all websites. Run the Windows troubleshooter to resolve the issue.

  1. Open the Settings app with the Win+I keyboard shortcut.
  2.  Go to Update and Security.
  3. Select the Troubleshoot tab.
  4. Click Additional troubleshooters.
  5. Run the Network adapter troubleshooter.
  6. Apply all fixes that it recommends.
  7. Next, run the Internet connections troubleshooter.
  8. Apply all fixes that it recommends.
  9. Restart the system.

5. Reset DNS and IP

Try resetting the DNS and IP on your system.

  1. Open Command Prompt with admin rights.
  2. Run the following commands, one by one.
netsh int ip reset
netsh winsock reset catalog
ipconfig /flushdns
  1. Restart the system.

6. Change DNS server

When connecting to the internet, you’ll need a DNS server. You won’t be able to access a website if a DNS server can’t find it. Change the DNS server you’re using to see if that helps.

  1. Open Control Panel.
  2. Go to Network and internet.
  3. Click Network and sharing.
  4. Click Change adapter settings in the column on the left.
  5. Double-click the WiFi adapter.
  6. Click the Properties button.
  7. Double-click Internet Protocol Version 4.
  8. Select Use the following DNS server address.
  9. Use Google’s DNS.

8.8.8.8

8.8.4.4

  1. Repeat steps 8-9 for Internet Protocol Version 6.
