Why Is My FPS So Low?

Low FPS Issues can be caused by a number of factors, some of which are fixable and others which are not. Before you start troubleshooting the low FPS, make sure it’s a recurring issue.

1. Check game requirements

To run a game with a high frame rate, you’ll need good or excellent hardware. Your system may satisfy the minimum requirements for a game, but it will not provide you with a good frame rate when you play.

There isn’t much you can do if your hardware doesn’t meet the criteria for running the game at its best/highest settings. You’ll obtain a better FPS rate if you free up as much system resources as possible, i.e., close all other apps while you play.

2. Turn of Game bar and other overlays

The Game bar in Windows 10 adds an overlay that, among other things, allows you to record and broadcast gaming. It has a habit of interfering with a variety of games. Disabling can aid in the resolution of Low FPS Issues.

  1. Open the Settings app with the Win+I keyboard shortcut.
  2. Go to the Gaming group of settings.
  3. Select the Game bar tab and turn the switch at the very top off.
