If you’re tired of staring at the Mac Touch Bar, there’s hope. We’ve talked before that you can use different techniques to disable or remove it entirely, but the best solution still costs around $ 8 to implement. Now, there is a new app that promises to use the exact same method at a quarter of the price. And it is easy to use.
To get rid of the Touch Bar (including emptying it and making sure your finger accidentally rubbing the space has no effect), check Hide My Bar. This is a lightweight application that you cannot purchase through the Mac App Store, but it offers a 10-day free trial period, so you can try it and confirm whether it suits your needs.

Download and install, the application icon will be permanently displayed in the menu bar of the Mac (once you also allow the application to “control your computer” through the accessibility menu in security settings and privacy). While this is usually an action you should think twice about when an app requests such permission, it is also the only way “Hide My Bar” works its magic.
From there, all you have to do is launch the application, open your preferences, and set it to launch when you log into the system. After that, just double click the Command key to hide and show your Touch Bar.

I didn’t think I’d enjoy Hide My Bar as much as I do, especially since I tend to prefer free apps whenever possible. For the price of a some value-menu french fries, however, Hide My Bar does a great job at its singular task: getting rid of your Touch Bar when you don’t want to mess with it and restoring it when you’re ready to be friends again.
