How to Perform a Repair Upgrade Using Windows 10 ISO file

November 10, 2021

Windows 10 is prone to malfunctioning. It breaks when you upgrade to a new version, when you update drivers, and occasionally when it’s Wednesday. The majority of users express dissatisfaction with Windows search or the Start Menu. Microsoft has a dedicated troubleshooting tool for these common issues. Users must look for solutions to other, more obscure problems in forums. If you can’t fix a problem that’s preventing you from using your computer, you should consider performing a Windows 10 repair upgrade.

The Windows Media Creation Tool is used to perform a repair upgrade. If you’ve ever used Windows 7 and had access to an installation CD, you may recall that the installation media included a repair option. Microsoft introduced a repair upgrade feature in Windows 10 and then hid it so that the average user couldn’t find it. To perform the repair upgrade, you must already be running the most recent version of Windows 10. If you aren’t, the tool will download and install the most recent version for you. If you want to stay on an older version, you’ll need to download the Windows 10 ISO for that version and skip to the Mount ISO section.

Note that while this will fix issues with your current Windows 10 installation, you must be running a genuine copy of Windows 10. This fix will not assist you in obtaining a free copy of Windows 10. It may assist you in resolving activation issues if you’re running a genuine copy of Windows 10.

To perform a repair upgrade on Windows 10, you need to download the media creation tool.

Run the program and agree to the terms of the license agreement. Then choose Create installation media (USB flash drive, DVD, or ISO file) or another PC from the drop-down menu. We won’t need a DVD or USB drive because we’ll be downloading the ISO rather than making a bootable USB or DVD.

Select your Windows 10 version on the next screen. If you’re running Windows 10 Home 64-bit, for example, choose that option on the next screen. Make sure you don’t get this one wrong.

Finally, select the ISO file option on the Choose which media to use screen. Now you must wait for the Windows 10 ISO file to be downloaded by the tool. Depending on your connection speed, it could take a few hours.

Mount ISO

Open the folder in which the ISO file was downloaded once it has finished downloading. Go to the ‘Manage’ tab on the ribbon after selecting the file. Select ‘Mount’ from the drop-down menu. Run the Setup file from the disc image once it has been mounted.

This will launch the standard Windows 10 setup. When you’re given the option, choose to keep everything and let Windows 10 install. Your Windows 10 installation will be repaired once it’s finished. It will not explicitly inform you that your system has been upgraded, but it has.
