If you’re looking for a way to boost your Windows 11 PC’s performance, you may already be aware of one option: use the Windows 10 power-performance slider. However, Microsoft has moved it to a new location in Windows 11. We’ll show you how to get there.
In Windows 10, Microsoft provides an easy way to improve performance. Clicking the battery icon on the Windows taskbar brings up the power slider, where you can trade lower performance for longer battery life.

It’s easy to find the Windows power-performance slider in Windows 10: Simply select the battery icon.
Naturally, laptops have this feature, whereas desktops do not. It does, however, make a difference. For example, Microsoft reduces the performance slider on its devices to the bare minimum, preserving battery life at the expense of performance. Sliding the performance slide to “best performance” on Surface devices like the Surface Laptop 4 and the Surface Pro 7+ can give you an extra six to seven percent boost, depending on the benchmark. (The actual numbers can be found in those reviews.)
The power-performance slider was moved from the Windows taskbar to a new location within the Windows 11 Settings menu by Microsoft. The power slider is not visible when you click the existing battery icon on the Windows 11 taskbar. Instead, it brings up the Windows 11 quick settings, where you can change the volume, enable Focus Assist, and more.

How to get to the Windows 11 Power Mode
The Windows power-performance slider is no longer a slider in Windows 11. Windows 11 Power Mode is the official name for it.
To access it, go to the Windows 11 Settings menu directly, either through the Start menu or by pressing the WIN+X button and navigating to the appropriate location. Go to System > Power & Battery in Settings, then scroll down to the “power mode” button. You should see several options here, with “Best performance” at the top. Choose the option that best suits your needs.
Go to the Windows 11 Settings > System > Power & battery menu to access the Windows 11 Power Mode dropdown menu.
Please keep in mind that the menu options you see are determined by the hardware manufacturer of your computer. You might not see any options here under Power Mode if you bought a desktop or built one yourself. However, if you’ve already purchased a laptop, you should have a variety of options to choose from. Why not push your computer to its limits?

True, if your laptop isn’t plugged in, asking it to run at “best performance” levels will drain your battery faster. However, this will only happen if it is actively being used while on battery, not if it is sleeping. If you keep your “laptop” at your desk all day, giving it a boost in performance can give it the boost it needs to run faster.
