Microsoft may be working hard to bring its cloud streaming service to iOS devices, but at least now you can remotely play your Xbox One games on your iPhone or iPad. You just need to use the latest version of the Xbox app. Although cloud streaming is a cooler idea, this new remote streaming feature provides a free way to play Xbox One (and soon Xbox Series X) games anytime, anywhere.

However, updating the Xbox app is only part of the remote streaming puzzle. You also need to understand some hardware requirements and restrictions.
Stream Xbox Games on Your iPhone or iPad
Any Xbox games you want to stream must be installed locally on your Xbox One console or inserted into the optical drive. Again, this feature is used to stream games you own over Wi-Fi or mobile data; it is not cloud streaming.
The streaming feature of the Xbox app only supports Xbox One games, which means that you will not be able to play Xbox 360 or original Xbox games, even if they are installed on your Xbox One console. Likewise, no you will be able to play PC Game Pass games installed on your computer. In other words, Xbox App Remote Play will support the upcoming Xbox Series X and Series S on day one.
Is played via Wi-Fi, your console must be connected to the same network, and you are all diverted to iPhone or iPad. (Microsoft recommends using their 5 GHz network for the fastest connection.) Playing through mobile data will require at least a 10MB download speed, if you are running away from home with a solid LTE or 5G connection.
Finally, you need to synchronize the Xbox with your Apple device with a wireless controller and controller stand, your iPhone will also help.
If you meet these requirements, you can start Stream Xbox Games on Your iPhone or iPad, like this:
- Open the Xbox app.
- Go to the “My Library” tab.
- Select “Consoles.”
- Tap “Connect” under the console you want to stream from, or press “Set up a console” if you have yet to do so.
- A short animation will play, then your Xbox console’s home screen will be mirrored on your iPhone/iPad.
- Use your controller to select the game you want to play, start it up, and enjoy!
