A new patch fixes rewind errors and Siri Remote issues for some users. So, How to update HBOMax on Apple TV ?
Apple TV users should immediately update the HBOMax application to correct some (but not all) errors introduced in the version update last week.
HBOMax version 5.30.1 was released on June 5, replacing the tvOS native video player with a custom player, which caused problems for many Apple TV users. According to a large number of posts on the Internet, the new custom player is slow, unresponsive, and does not seem to work with the newer Siri Remote.
Fortunately, the HBOMax developers released an emergency patch on Tuesday to restore the application to the native tvOS video player, and should fix playback issues and restore Siri Remote support, at least for some users.

How to update HBOMax on Apple TV
For users who enable automatic updates on Apple TV, the patch must be downloaded and installed in the background. You can also manually download the update by going to “Settings”> “Applications” and then select HBOMax Update.
If you remove HBOMax after adding a custom video player, you can redownload it from the app store to get the latest version with the native tvOS player.
There are still more bugs to fix
Installing the update appears to restore correct playback control, but it does not resolve all issues. Some users are still unable to use the Siri Remote to control HBOMax, and some users report new issues after the update, including:
- Content thumbnails not appearing
- Long load times
- Incorrect subtitles
There are also reports from iOS and iPad users who have encountered similar problems. We were unable to find fixes for these persistent bugs, but the HBOMax team is aware of them and is developing more patches.
The official HBOMax Reddit account requires users to submit a bug report via this contact form on the HBOMax help page, or tweet @HBOMaxHelp on Twitter. If they can help solve the problem, the support representative will respond, and their report will help the developer identify the problem to be fixed in a future update.
