When You Shouldn’t Repair Your Mac

When You Shouldn’t Repair Your Mac

September 10, 2021
When You Shouldn't Repair Your Mac

The hardware repairs point is to ensure that your devices remains usable and, in good condition, the for as long as possible, so you don’t have to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars in a new product. Spend a couple of hundred dollars that replace a severely broken MacBook screen is a much better option than buying a new one in its entirety, especially if your devices are still under warranty.

Unfortunately, it is not always the case.

The Canadian software developer Luke Tully has recently documented an exchange with Apple support on potential Repair Your Mac costs for a 13-inch MacBook Pro, which needs a screen and battery replacement. According to the screen e-mails in the Tully publication, the Apple representative said he will cost almost the CAD 2051.84 (around $ 1557.44 USD) for the damage and suggested to buy a replacement.

For comparison, a new 13-inch MacBook Pro 2020 model begins at $ 1200 USD and renovated certified models starting from 2019 (the oldest renewed models available at Apple Store at the time of writing) start around $ 979 USD .

Tully stresses that Apple and other technical companies are investigated for anti-transumer and anti-competitive behavior, and questions if the high cost for repairs is the result that Apple pushes users towards buying a new MacBook instead of Repair Your Mac (perfectly well).

While some, such as Tully, notice high prices, some users cannot take discrepancy or cannot call into question. It seems that a new movement, but we trust that many people have just sent to your broken Mac to Apple to solve without even looking at the esteem.

Instead of doing so, be sure to compare the estimated cost of repairs against the price of a new or used MacBook, the next time you are going to send a repair device. If you are looking for almost a big or more repairs, you can even be able to replace the entire laptop, especially if it will be a decent push in the specifications about your current MacBook.

On the other hand, if the damage is superficial and has no impact performance, support cracked screens or chipped cases as long as possible. And if you don’t mind a potentially low quality replacement screen, you may be able to get a cheaper functional replacement from a repairs store.

If you choose to completely replace your MacBook, you don’t need to get rid of that old laptop, just because you’re getting a new one. There are numerous ways to convert to an old laptop to a useful secondary device, or even an additional cash. A broken screen means nothing, for example, if you can remotely connect to the laptop with another computable computer.
