The Microsoft Store has previously struggled to gain user acceptance. It has a reputation for being unreliable, or for missing critical applications entirely. The Windows 11 upgrade, on the other hand, promises significant improvements and expanded functionality. If you download Windows 11 and use the Microsoft Store, here are the key features to look for.
A better search experience in the Microsoft Store
Microsoft is continuing to make the store’s search process more user-friendly, including the creation of new results pages that prioritize the most relevant and desirable content.
Users can also refine their search using new filters based on application age ratings or categories. You can now filter through app sales, paid apps, and free apps using the All Types drop-down menu. To search the store more thoroughly, toggle Departments and All Ages in these apps.

An entertainment widget
Years ago, Microsoft attempted to integrate widgets into its operating system but decided against it. A new button in the taskbar, on the other hand, opens a widget panel with weather, traffic, calendar, and other basic options.
The Microsoft Store sidebar also includes sections like Home, Apps, Gaming, and Entertainment once you open the widget panel. Users can download some of their favorite streaming services or access widgets for film and gaming in the new Entertainment widget.
A pop-up store
When users click on the “Get it from Microsoft” badge on web pages, the new OS takes them to a mini version of the Microsoft Store. For example, you can download apps online using this mini pop-up version of the Microsoft Store to mediate the installation on sites that feature app badges.
This is a welcome addition because it allows faster access to the store without having to go through the Microsoft Store.
Improved Xbox integration
Gamers will be able to play over 100 titles through the Xbox Game Pass with Windows 11, thanks to improved integration with the Xbox App. Additionally, the Epic Games Store is now available for download from the Microsoft Store as a native app.
This is timely, as more PC games are set to be released and made available to Windows 11 users this fall. Age of Empires IV, Forza Horizon 5, and Halo Infinite, for example, are all due out in the next few months.
Unfortunately, many PCs do not meet Windows 11’s stringent hardware requirements; you can use the PC Health Check app to see if yours does. If it doesn’t, we have a guide that will help you make Windows 10 feel more like Windows 11.
